Lean Construction Planning

New developments in the Lean Construction area such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), virtual planning and building, lean methods and cooperation’s have gained large benefits.

Integrated Project Delivery combines all these individual aspects and provides new opportunities. IPD makes a planning possible which takes input from all persons involved into account. This has a powerful effect: the planning and construction time gets shorter, IPD projects are less expensive and resource-saving.

The participants will understand the added value of Lean methods in planning. They will learn how collaborations will achieve better results through process-oriented contracts. Moreover they will get to know the Choosing by Advantages- Decision Making System which will help them to compare and decide between different alternatives.

  • How to design a project, which generates maximal value and minimal waste
  • How to control the collaborative process of the target value design by the use of agile methods and the Last Planner System
  • Which methods are used in integrated project delivery
  • Which preparations have to be made prior to a first integrated project

Part 1: Differences and characteristics of integrated project delivery in comparison to the usual three-step design-, tender- and construction process

  • Results of IPD
  • Weaknesses of previous planning approaches
  • Opportunities for simultaneous planning of the building and the construction process

Part 2: Methods for integrated project delivery

  • User participation through Charrette-procedure
  • Working on a corporate BIM- model in a Big Room
  • Developing the proper planning at the lowest coasts for the whole project by using Target Value Design
  • Agile methods and the last planner system to control IPD projects

Part 3: Relational Contracts and practical effects for the conceptualization of a project

  • New process-oriented contracts encourage cooperation’s
  • ways and means to implement these measures

Approach

The theoretical portion of the training is reinforced by practical simulations and group discussions. The workshop can be rather held as a public course or as an in-house training.

Public workshops provide the opportunity to meet other members of the „Lean Construction community“ and talk about revolutionary developments in the construction industry.

The advantage of in-house trainings is that the content can be adopted to the company’s specific needs. This helps to transfer the theoretical methods into practical tasks and concrete implications.
